What is a Simple System?
Making changes in your lifestyle, long term, can feel overwhelming. Images pop up across social media, television, or magazine covers every day. These pictures spread the news of quick fixes, magic pills, and programs that will create miracles in a short amount of time. In other words, they tell us our bodies, fitness, or nutrition don’t measure up.
Hear me loud and clear – HOGWASH! Although one may think transformation is confusing, I have found a simple system that has taught me how to fall in love with a slow, consistent health journey. What in the world is a simple system? A simple system is a plain layout of steps to follow. Unfortunately, many systems have too many steps, too many pills, or too many restrictions!
The most beautiful lesson I have learned is transformation takes time. Let’s dive into what was happening before I discovered this life-changing system.
My Simple Systems
Zero Systems
Health for me has always coincided with physical abilities and appearance. For example, I thought good genetics was how I was able to eat and drink anything I wanted as a teenager, college student, and young adult. There was nothing simple about my daily habits, nor was there any system! In my early 20s, fitness was a spontaneous activity. As I crept into my late 20s, running became my go-to exercise. Unfortunately, the more I fell in love with running, the less I understood the importance of nutrition with training and exercise. Once again, I had no simple system.
Looking back, my intentional health journey began when I was expecting my first child. I was curious about food and what I was putting in my body and I wanted to learn the best ways to feed my babies. Learning about the benefits of food for my children was new to me and this opened the doors for more questions. Yet, instead of leaning into how foods could also benefit me, I lost myself in caring for my children. And sugar became my survival tool. I was overwhelmed, exhausted, and pretended to be energized with four young children. Can you relate?
Zero Self-Love
Week after week, in my journal, I wrote about my lack of control over food. Speaking to myself in a way I would never speak to my children, especially my daughter, I harassed myself about the foods I was putting in my body. Why couldn’t I just follow this program? How could I just eliminate sugar? Why was taking care of myself and feeling good about myself so complicated? Wasn’t there some simple system to make it all easier? I constantly googled the next “healthy” thing or bought the best-selling diet/cookbook.
My perfectionism, distorted perspective, and lack of self-love meant my health journey revolved around how my body looked, how my clothes felt, and what was going on with my skin! And to any outsider, I was thin, looked amazing, and was doing all the right things. (The picture above was taken in 2014, about three months before starting my “true” health journey.) Unintentionally, as I lost myself in the scroll hole of social media, I found myself watching the transformations of other women.
Chasing a Simple System
In August 2014, a friend connected with me because she knew I was “healthy.” Even though I was curious about this simple system for myself, I was not brave enough to be honest. Pump your fists if sometimes you are curious about that “thing,” yet afraid to try it!
Engulfed with skepticism AND open to enhancing my health journey, I wanted to experience what I was watching unfold on social media. Even if I was chasing someone else’s transformation, I wanted what this simple system seemed to be offering other women. I noticed these women were more energized, eating differently than I was, and had large smiles on their faces while hanging out with others. These women looked like they were living their best lives; I wanted that!
Thus far, my health journey focused on diet and exercise. I had zero understanding of how supplements may or may not support the missing gaps. Protein shakes were not a part of my life and I had visions of chalk stuck to my teeth. And why was I interested in the all-natural fruity drink? I drank plain ole water! I had read enough food labels to understand that the products in this simple system were clean and high quality – so what the heck?
As I look back, my health journey was completely confusing. To sum it up, I had zero simple systems, overcomplicated food choices, battled negative self-talk, and knew I wanted something different. And thankfully, curiosity opened the door for me to try something new.

Opening my “Box of Hope” brought excitement. Something wonderful was about to unfold. In a matter of minutes, five simple products to bring vitality, energy, balance, beauty, and transformation were available to bring about change. In addition, a simple eating guide, designed to be followed as a lifestyle, caught my eye. The words “At Yoli, we want you to live, grow, and transform,” leaped from the page. Only now do I understand the true meaning behind Yoli’s mission. Yoli’s simple system transforms lives physically, emotionally, and financially.
How This Simple System Changed My Life – Physically
How did this simply designed plan and products change my life? Over eight years of using products and following the plan “imperfectly,” my physical body has become stronger. Stronger because I made decisions to challenge myself by becoming a marathon runner and adding strength training to my fitness routine.
Healthier because I invested time asking questions and learning more about the what, why, and how of nutrition. I became my own experiment and accountable for what I did with my health! As I dove headfirst into carb cycling, my sugar cravings were not the focus of my evenings anymore. And later, I discovered how my activity level and food restrictions from years of trying to control food contributed to stronger sugar cravings. I learned about balance and discovered how proteins, carbohydrates, and fats work together to support our healthiest bodies.
How This Simple System Changed My Life – Emotionally
My emotional transformation, from Yoli’s simple system, has had the biggest impact on my life. Who knew that adding vitamins and minerals could create balance and harmony in the body? First, my mood and energy shifted. I began to have more spring in my step, a bigger smile on my face, and a brighter look at life. Second, along with my box of products and my lifestyle eating guide was a community of people, with goals to live healthier lives. Each of us was extremely different, yet the same, because we all wanted to live, grow, and transform. This community encouraged having a growth mindset. I read books with others and compared notes, found topics to inspire me on podcasts, and attended conferences and events.
As a result of all of the growth, I began to identify my wants and needs. I was not encouraged to say what I wanted as a child or young adult and was not scoring high as a grown, educated adult at this skill either. My beliefs began to change about myself. I learned how to feel my feelings so I could identify my dreams, wants, and needs. For the first time, I was capable of staring at myself in the mirror. I did not criticize or look for flaws. I celebrated myself and poured love into my eyes and heart. Above all, Yoli has brought me the tools for self-love, self-respect, and self-compassion. A gift every woman deserves in this world.
How This Simple System Changed My Life – Financially
Lastly, Yoli has opened my eyes to financial growth. Talking about money has been a challenge for me because I have a belief of “I have enough.” Yes, I do have enough. Yet, investing in my health, in my family’s health, and living a life that I have designed requires an income. Therefore, owning a health and wellness business that requires me to walk my talk every day has many perks.
God has placed a dream of impacting thousands of women in my heart, which involves service, donations, and financial support to organizations to better the lives of women.
